As we start a new month, I start a new adventure in the West Country. It’s a region that has a strange pull on me – and a lot of people. A truly magical, peaceful yet dramatic and inspiring landscape from rugged cliffs to desolate moors; from crashing waves to calm mists and abundant woodlands and wildlife.
I’m heading there for some of the best 3 months of the year – May, June and July – to work for BBC Radio Devon reading the news, producing programmes and maybe presenting a programme or two. Rest assured I’ll let you know as soon as i do if there’s the chance we can all meet up again over the airwaves! In the meantime I’ll be staying on a farm just a mile from the sea in a converted barn; trying to sleep through the cockerels at 0400….
As a precursor to my adventure I visited a friend at Buckfast Abbey this week and joined the monks for vespers. The makers of the world famous tonic wine, the benedictines have made a good job of making the whole community a thriving business to the tune of millions. So much so that some have re-named it “Fast-Buck Abbey”. But at least the committed bunch have made a good go of the opportunities that have appeared before them and through their success they’re able to plough back into the community a lot of their hard earned dough. A bit like all of us really when you look at the grand scheme of things. If we go with the flow, yet ensure we grasp every opportunity that opens up before us, we too can earn a crust so we can give back. The Circle of Life.
While I hope to be able to continue posting our weekly chill outs and week’s weather, it may prove some weeks to be impossible. Least of all that the farm has no phone reception and dodgy internet connection! I’ll do my best but in the meantime here’s a gorgeously extended Mellow Moment which is just right for listening to on headphones. It’ll set yourself up for the next 3 months so that you too can experience new openings, new adventures and new beginnings. Let’s hope the Summer’s a good one for us all and thanks as ever for all your support, fun and friendship over the years….x
Thank you Mike for your lovely MMM. Good luck in Devon and hope to hear you on the airwaves soon. 🙂
