Last week I visited Reading Jail as the prison which held Oscar Wilde flung open its doors to the public for the first time.
The place was understandably full of negative energy. It felt oppressive, depressive and without hope.
But in every cell there was a chink of light and a breath of air coming from outside. There was a glimmer of hope for those who were incarcerated, sometimes for many, many years.
This week we’ll meet people who are living in their own types of prison. For despite living in the “free” world, many are tied by chains of guilt, some that have turned rusty as they’ve been attached for too long.
As the nights start to draw in and the summer sun bids us farewell, maybe we can offer those living in a perpetual winter some promise of light, warmth and freedom. Sometimes it’s just a smile, a helpful hand or a kind gesture. Whatever it is, you’ll know when to give it. And as you do the ties that bind become just a little looser…
Thank you for a lovely MMM.
