40 years ago I saved up my pocket money to travel to London on the bus to meet one of my heroes on the radio, Adrian Love. He was the son of the famous band leader Geoff Love and presented programmes on LBC and Capital Radio.
When I got to the Capital Radio buildings on Euston Square I was in awe of the huge spiralling staircase up towards the studios where such legends as Kenny Everett, Greg Edwards, Roger Scott, Kerry Juby and Graham Dene broadcast.
Can you imagine the thrill not only when I ended up with my own programme on the same station as Adrian Love (SCR) and this week when I walked up the stairs of Capital Radio (albeit in a different building in a different, yet not far away, part of town) to broadcast on the dizzy heights of Smooth, Classic, Gold and LBC? I saw the studios of Capital, Heart and Radio X and couldn’t quite believe that I had fulfilled a childhood dream.
True, it’s taken an age for a wish to come true but surely it proves that you should never give up? If there’s something you’ve always wanted to do, do it now – or at least start to make plans to move towards that goal. Because in the words of Mark Twain….
” 20 years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbour, catch the trade winds in your sails…
Explore, Dream, Discover…..”
Thanks as usual Mike. I always enjoy your Mellow Moments. x
