Another week has flown by and we’ve all been doing our bit to make this planet a better one. I’ve just returned from the celebrations of a sprightly 80 year young who was dancing to Abba along with her pals all in their 80’s and all moving like no one was watching and without a care in the world. What great fun!
In the past week I’ve had the privilege – amongst other stories for the World Service – of investigating a story about gorillas in Rwanda, Congo and Uganda plus the weird world of fidget spinners. Before this week I had no idea the latter existed and I equally had no inclination that tourists were charged so much to see the former – the last remaining 880 mountain gorillas in their stunning habitats.
Last week I also discovered more about the homeless man who cheers people up on Regents Street by smiling and waving his posters with words of hope and exhilaration. His name is Ian but he changed his name by deed poll to Race C; the reason I’ll reveal soon. He asked me if I had ever been on telly and I said I had, to which he replied: “Did you do the weather?” You could’ve knocked me down with a feather. He had lived in Portsmouth and was an avid watcher of South Today before he decided to try his luck in London where he fall on hard times.
In the week ahead we’ll encounter more about this fabulous life we live and the people we share the planet with. From the marvellous characters dancing at all ages, to the homeless and destitute who have something to teach us. We’ll learn how we can help those creatures who happen to be in existence at the same time – animal and mammal – and we’ll discover things we never knew about. Such is life’s richness. As one wise person once said, the paths we follow, the adventures we experience, may make no sense at the time… but when we turn over the page on which we weave, we will ultimately reveal the most unique and stunning tapestry full of beauty, wonder and magnificence…
